Problems to select dimensions for a specimen of fire-resistant composite materials at thermal tests, are discussed. A relationship for the stage of the heating up to the thermal destruction, is found. It allows to estimate a zone of thermal boundary influence. Thus, specimen dimensions and measurement range free of temperature field distortion, can be reasonably set. For the heating stage accompanied by binder decomposition and combustion of gaseous destruction products, the specimen dimensions are experimentally found. These dimensions allow to neglect their influence on carrying processes.
