A method of testing non-compact materials in a hot state for the defect-removal ability under various hydrostatic pressures is considered. The method consists in upsetting the shrouded bars. The shroud has outside ring-type grooves, due to which it only works in tension during the process of upsetting the enclosed bar, creating the omni directional compression stresses in the bar. A level of the omni directional compression stresses is regulated by a wall thickness and selection of a make of the shroud material.
