Abstract
The article discusses the possibilities of using chromium diiodide in the processes of sharpening metal-cutting tools made of hard alloys and high-speed steel to increase their durability and ensure the required quality of the surface layer of the machined parts. The features of the condition of the front and back surfaces of tools after sharpening of incisors and drills by the methods providing creation of nanolayers of iron iodides on them are investigated. The results of metallographic, spectral, and quantum chemical studies of iron iodide nanolayers formed during sharpening on tool surfaces are presented. The compositions of cooling fluids containing chromium diiodide have been established, ensuring the most effective sharpening of tools made of hard alloys and high-speed steel. Comparative studies of the methods of sharpening cutters and drills in the processing of various structural materials have been carried out and the areas of their most effective use using chromium diiodide have been identified. It has been proven that it is advisable to sharpen carbide cutting inserts with the use of coolant containing chromium diiodide when processing parts made of iron-carbon alloys. It is shown that the use of chromium diiodide in the sharpening of metalcutting tools made of hard alloys and high-speed steel makes it possible not only to significantly increase the durability of tools when processing parts made of iron-carbon alloys, but also to reduce the roughness of the treated surfaces
