The ultimate contact loads in deforming of solids are determined. The complete solution to the plane problem on embedding the flat hard punch in the ideally plastic half-plane with the reinforced surface layer is given. Theoretical inferences are confirmed by the data of experimental study of bearing capability of the reinforced surface layer.
