Pyroelectric properties of polyvinylidene fluoride and its application for infra-red radiation perception are considered. Characteristic properties measured under real-life conditions are presented along with the computed theoretical parameters of polyvinylidene fluoride film. In contrast to well-known ferroelectric ceramics, pyroactive polymers are of higher strength, more flexible, chemically inert, moisture-resistant and cheap.
